About The Artist

As a third-generation artist, Cathie A. Tyler has always had painting in her life.  In her formative years, she lived with her mother Lillian in Colorado Springs at her grandmother’s, Lulu McLean, who was an active landscape painter there from the 1930s through the early 60s.  Lilian learned the rudiments of oil painting from Lulu and continued to paint after the family moved to El Paso and later to Paris, Texas.  Her paintings were exhibited at The McNay and Little Rock Art Museums.

In addition to the family tradition of painting, the natural environment has always been a second background for Tyler’s life and work.  Over the years, the mountains and plains of Colorado, the desert and mountains of El Paso, the prairies around Denton, and the rolling hills, fields and hardwood forests of Paris, Texas, have served to inspire her drawings and paintings. Her current studio is in Mason, Texas, in the heart of the Hill Country.

Ms. Tyler’s work has been shown in invitational, juried competitions, and solo exhibitions in museums and galleries in Texas and other states. Her work is in private, corporate, and educational collections.
