About The Artist

Cathie Tyler’s new paintings are intimate portraits of Mason and the surrounding Hill Country in Texas.  Her close examination of the often-overlooked details of light, line and color in the natural environment share the same dedication to “seeing” with her Water’s Edge series inspired by the woodlands surrounding Paris, Texas.

As a third-generation artist, Cathie Tyler grew up surrounded by art.  Her grandmother, Lulu McLean, and mother, Lillian Tyler, were serious and dedicated artists.  In addition to the family tradition of painting the natural environment has always been a background for Tyler’s life and work.

She received degrees (BA, MFA) from the University of North Texas in Denton.  After teaching for Denton ISD and part-time at the University, she moved to Paris, Texas where she taught art at Paris Junior College full-time and eventually administered the Fine Arts Division.

The artist’s work has been exhibited in invitational, juried competitions and solo exhibitions in museums and galleries in Texas and many other states. Her work is in private, corporate and educational collections.
